The 4th International Gender Studies in Türkiye Conference, organized by Sabancı University Gender and Women's Studies Center for Excellence (SU Gender), will be held in Istanbul on December 5-6, 2026. Applications for papers and workshops are now being accepted. The deadline for applications is August 10, 2026.
The conference aims to address current debates in gender studies from an interdisciplinary perspective, evaluating the power, inequality, and oppression relations that shape gender and sexuality in light of current developments such as the rise of right-wing populist movements, anti-feminist and anti-queer discourses, migration, environmental crises, and social polarization.
The conference will accept studies on a wide range of topics including feminist and queer struggles, activism and social movements, politics and governance, religion, nationalism and populism, work and labor, care, migration, ecology, climate change, health, masculinity studies, art and popular culture, digital technologies, body politics, and feminist/queer methodologies. Research focusing on Türkiye or addressing social and political dynamics in Türkiye within a comparative framework will also be considered.
Applications can be submitted with abstracts of papers that have been completed or are expected to be completed by the presentation date. A limited number of workshop proposals focusing on methodological approaches, conceptual discussions, or field-based applications related to the conference themes will also be accepted.
Applications should be sent to genderconf@sabanciuniv.edu with a maximum 250-word abstract in Turkish or English, a short CV, and the relevant form for workshop applications. Authors of accepted papers and workshop proposals will be notified on October 13, 2026.
